Our approach to landscape regeneration

It’s a conversation not a lecture

Our process starts with you, the landscape, and the people who inhabit it. Rather than impose preconceived ideas, we let the direction and goals emerge from our shared understanding of place.

Your project has its own unique opportunities, and we apply landscape architecture skills to help you make the most of them. Alongside technical analysis, we use structured thinking and guided conversations to find the best the way forward.

We approach each project in three stages:

1. What is

What are the forces that created and continue to affect this place?

It’s from the roots of place that abundance emerges. During the discovery phase, we use a suite of analytical tools to understand the geological, biological, and cultural processes that shape the place. We work with you to define your purpose and the parameters of the project, including budget and timeframes.

Work at this stage could include:

  • Site analysis: site visits and desktop research
  • Drone surveys: terrain mapping and hydrological modelling
  • Stakeholder mapping: understanding the landscape’s inhabitants

2. What could be

How can we transform this place while honouring its past and creating the conditions for life to thrive?

Together, we set goals for the project – turning detailed analysis and complex ideas into clear strategies. Our aim is always to work in harmony with living systems, think long-term, and help the landscape adapt to the realities of climate change. A vital part of this is engaging with communities and stakeholders to foster a sense of ownership and excitement about the future landscape.

Work at this stage could include:

  • Public workshops: engaging with stakeholders and communities
  • Land-use planning: creating a framework for the future use of the place
  • Design work: comprehensive design and visual communications

3. How we get there

How can we make sure the implemented design aligns with your purpose and parameters?

We help you assemble the right team to carry out the work, building capabilities, and uniting suppliers around shared goals. From experience, we know how important it is to be able to adapt our approach as our understanding of the place develops. We’re your advocate during construction; coordinating design teams and contractors to make sure quality is maintained and the original purpose of the project is preserved.

  • Funding opportunities: exploring options and writing bids
  • Land management: co-developing effective strategies
  • Coordinating contractors: working with design and construction teams

Finally, we look at how to make sure the evolution of the project is supported beyond our involvement. Landscape regeneration is a process and we’re in it for the long-term.
